after lots of struggling with the choice of site, this is what i managed to pull together within the little time frame that i had. . . . *note to self - BE DECISIVE!!!!

online tutorial - generating forms through the manipulation of trigonometry

i found this online tutorial on youtube which helped me generate this curved form through the manipulation of trigonometry. pretty cool knowing that you can generate curves mathematically and lofting these to make a surface which then can be played with to create new forms. . . .

sadly the video is no longer on youtube. . .well i cant seem to find it anymore on there but its worthwhile having a look at the other videos they have on youtube. . . .grasshopper3d.com also provides viable videos and tutorials that can be referred to. . .the links provided there are so useful especially for this theme. . .

the sliders attached to the components allow for deformation of the curves generated which could be helpful in the generation of an abstract tubular form. this can be applied to the generation of an abstract terminal form for the proposed terminal that i am working on. . . .with the basic definition produced from the video, i had some fun with this and added spheres to the surface subtracted the internal parts of these. . . . .

asymptote [architect]ure

i was impressed to find out that the Penang Global City Centre's idea of creating an urban city within a city (Penang, Malaysia) was actually the product of Asymptote Architects. hmm coming from penang myself i feel rather shameful to have only found out now. . . .anyhoo. . . .i was looking through the project and it seems pretty impressive that they have implemented various sustainable features to deal with the ecological situation of the development that was going to take up a a big space of green land on the island. the "Karbon 0" approach is then taken one step further and assimilated with form to create architecture that blends with the natural surroundings. the design achieves its elegance and stature through the simultaneous embrace of natural landscapes and contemporary urbanism. just wanted to share a little something as i would like to explore the shapes and design approach portrayed in this design for the airport terminal im working on now. . . .

i noticed the layout of the runways having similar asymptote bay patterns similar to the PGCC exterior look. . . .hence i'll refer to the PGCC and these bay shapes found on the existing airport runway to dictate the exterior of the proposed airport terminal.

grid [analysis]

the intent of this experiment was to first understand the proper use of attractors and {repulsers}. . . .the hexagonal grid was generated first which was then inter-{weaved} with the other attractor and {repulsers}.
the next step was to fill in each hexagon with something. . .i created a surface from this grids using the [surface grid] tool and added a slider to this which surprisingly gave to different types of surfaces. . . .
just by 1 integer different the surface that was created was absolutely different from the above and dare i say more interesting than the first one generated. . .so i took the extra effort to [pipe] the grid up in grasshopper to give the grid more definition which i then rendered in rhino. . . .

voronoi exploration

this voronoi exploration took me ages to come up with. . .basically a set of randomized points were set out onto a voronoi and from this an attractor point was inserted to give it a more interesting feel to it. . .i then refered to one of the threats posted on the grasshopper forum which allowed for the created voronoi system to have an angled feel to it. . .could be a possible means of controlling sunlight into the space. . . .

a simple 2d voronoi grid was generated then i somehow came up with this. . . .pressed a few buttons and connected this with that and baaam. . . .and i kinda like it. . .potentially could be used as a massing study for the central core of the terminal. . . .

startup tutorials

here are some of the tutorial exercises which can be found in the provided pdf. nothing much but this helped me familiarized myself more with the interface and the different commands and capabilities of rhino+grasshopper. here are some of the snapshots of these.
